Golden Gate Canyon State Park is located about 10 miles northeast of the town of Blackhawk . The park offers two individual family campgrounds (Reverend’s Ridge, Aspen Meadow), a group campground (Rifleman Phillips), and 24 backcountry campsites. Campsites vary from primitive to paved sites with electric hookups and shower facilities.
The Rifleman Phillips Group Campground is a tent only campground located near the Rifleman Phillips Trailhead at about 8,800 feet. Group camping is permitted here by reservation only. There is one handicapped-accessible vault toilet at the trailhead parking area. Truck campers, trailers, or motorhomes are not permitted at the trailhead as turnaround space is limited. Campsites are scattered on a ridge shaded by lodgepole pine trees. There are no formal tent pads and level spots are scarce. Picnic tables and fire grates are provided. There is no drinking water. Organized groups of up to 75 people are permitted to camp here.
