Sleeping Elephant Campground
     

     Sleeping Elephant campground is located about 42.5 miles west of Highway 287 on Highway 14 at an elevation of 7,800 feet. The campground is situated in an open aspen stand against the north wall of Poudre Canyon. There are 15 sites in the campground. Twelve are suitable for RV camping and three are more suitable for tents. Many of the sites are in open areas with some wooded sites offering aspen and juniper for shade. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring or grate. The maximum vehicle length that can be accommodated is 20 feet.
     The roads through the campground are gravel. There is one water hydrant and two restrooms. One of the restrooms will accommodate disabled persons. Reservations are not accepted for campsites in this campground. The season for this campground normally runs from mid May through September, depending on the weather.

Activities:
FISHING: Fishing for trout is available in Cache La Poudre River across the road from the campground.

HIKING: Hiking is available on the nearby Roaring Creek trail located about 3 miles east of the campground on Highway 14.

WILDLIFE VIEWING: The campground is near the Bliss State Wildlife Area. Bighorn sheep are often seen.

SIGHT SEEING: Take the Poudre Canyon highway for a great scenic drive.

Directions:
     
Take Highway 287 north from Fort Collins to Laporte. Continue on Highway 287 to Highway 14. Travel west on 14 for 42.5 miles to the campground. The campground is on the right side of the highway.
