Big South Campground
     

     The Big South Campground is located about 47.5 miles west of Highway 287 at an elevation of 8,440 feet. The campground is nestled between the highway and the Cache La Poudre River. There are four sites in the campground. All of them are more suitable for tents. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring or grate. The maximum vehicle length that can be accommodated is 25 feet. The total area of the campground is small and fairly open.
     The road through the campground is gravel. There is no water in the campground and one restroom that is not disabled accessible. Reservations are not accepted. The season for this campground normally runs from May through September, depending on the weather. Check with the Forest Service for the current fees.

Activities:
FISHING: Fishing for trout is available in nearby Chambers Lake, Lost Lake, Laramie Lake, Barnes Meadow Reservoir, Laramie River, Cache La Poudre River and Joe Wright Creek.

HIKING: Hiking is available on numerous trails in the Rawah Wilderness and on the Big South Trail.

BICYCLING: Mountain biking is permitted on the Laramie River Road and the Green Ridge Trail.

BOATING: Both motorized and non-motorized boating is available on Chambers Lake.

SIGHT SEEING: Take the Poudre Canyon highway for a great scenic drive.

Directions:
     
Take Highway 287 north from Fort Collins to Laporte. Continue on Highway 287 to Highway 14. Travel west on 14 for 47.5 miles to the campground. The campground is on the left side of the highway.
